Is Counselling Confidential?

All information is confidential, and will not be released without your consent except as required by law. Confidentiality is imperative to developing a trusting and effective client/counsellor relationship. This is both a legal and ethical issue, As a counsellor, I go by the code of conduct  ACA, Australian Counsellor Association.

Even though confidentiality is important there will be a time when confidential information must be divulged.

Below are some of the circumstances where this may happen,

  • Information is required for court action.

  • Clients request their records be released to them or a third party.

  • The counsellor is involved in Clinical Supervision, During this time the client's identity remains anonymous.

  • If the therapist thinks that a client under 16 is a victim of incest or rape, child abuse or any other crime.

  • The client may pose danger to others or themselves

  • The therapist believes that a client needs to be hospitalised.

What happens at the initial appointment?

I will be listening to you and taking the time to understand what is happening at this point in your life.

I will be making assessment notes to decide which is the right approach to take and to decide which is the help and support that I can provide to you.

I would need to ask you a long list of sexual history questions to get to the root of the issue.

You will also have the opportunity to ask me any questions that you may have in regards to the counselling process.

How is the payment made?

Payment is made before the session via bank transfer or via beem it
